What is an RF test stand?

1、 Definition of RF test seat.

The RF test base is mainly composed of three parts: the shell of the test base, the common probe of the test base, and the RF coaxial connector.

In the RF test seat, most of the structures are similar to the ordinary test seat, except for the coaxial connector.

RF connector is a RF coaxial connector, which mainly plays the role of communication RF. Through the joint efforts of the world communication industry,RF connector It has formed a professional system and international standards, and it is also an indispensable part of the connector.

2、 Working principle of RF test stand.

The general pin pin of RF test base adopts the corresponding pogopin probe, but because the RF transmission signal requires special media, the corresponding connector part is also very special, and our common RF coaxial connector is one of them

According to the design and selection of RF connectors in the corresponding test seat, you can refer to the following (not limited to the following interfaces). When customizing the test seat, you have to put forward your own chip damage and damage requirements (S12 / S21 and S11) to the supplier, and put forward your own contact impedance requirements at the same time.

BNC is bayonet type, which is mostly used for RF connection below 4GHz, and is widely used for the connection of instruments and computers.

TNC is similar to BNC in terms of threaded connection and size. The working frequency reaches 11GHz. The threaded type is suitable for vibration environment.

SMA is a threaded connection, which is most widely used. The impedance is 50 and 75 Ω. When the impedance is 50 Ω, the service frequency of flexible cable is lower than 12.4ghz, and the maximum frequency of semi-rigid cable is 26.5ghz.

SMB is smaller than SMA in volume. In order to insert self-locking structure for fast connection, it is commonly used in digital communication. It is a substitute for L9. 50 ohm can reach 4GHz and 75 ohm can reach 2GHz.

SMC is threaded connection. Other similar SMBs have a wider frequency range and are commonly used in military or high vibration environment.

The n-type connector is threaded, with air as the insulating material, with low cost and frequency up to 11GHz. It is commonly used in test instruments, with 50 and 75 ohms.

McX and MMCX connectors are small for dense connections.

BMA is used for blind plug-in of low-power microwave systems with frequencies up to 18GHz.



3、 Application of RF test stand.

With the upgrading of high-speed communication standards such as 5g and WiFi 6, the new RF chip is widely used in mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets, communication base stations and other communication platforms. The demand of RF test stand is higher and higher, and the main RF chips use aging test, functional test and special test in extreme environment. Therefore, RF test stand also puts forward higher test requirements.

4、 Manufacturing method of RF test seat:

Product design needs to rely on data, including chip size (length, width and thickness), chip spacing, chip shape, frequency of chip operation in chip test, corresponding damage, damage and other data. Some RF chips have high power and may need to provide overcurrent requirements. As we all know, the over-current capacity of the pogopin of the test block is less than 1a, so the over-current capacity of the power pin of the chip also needs to be considered. Otherwise, it will affect the test data of chip fire full open.

5、 Maintenance of RF test stand:

The RF test seat needs regular maintenance. Check the contact probe and RF RF connector with a microscope every 5000 times to check whether there is dirt and needle wear on the top of the needle, so as to ensure that the test seat always maintains a good test state. If there is dirt, it is recommended to use ultrasonic cleaning equipment, add high-purity alcohol for ultrasonic cleaning, and then use air gun for final cleaning to ensure that the test seat is dry and ensure the service life and test performance of the product. If there is slight wear, it will not affect the test (i.e. there is no big error in the test data), and it can be used again after cleaning. In case of serious damage, the probe and RF connector need to be replaced.
