What is the cause of the connector connection failure?

The main fault causes and solutions are as follows:


1. The inner conductor is not firm.


In order to assemble, many RF Connector (e.g. n-type, 3.5mm) structure is that the inner conductor is divided into two parts under dielectric support, and then connected with threads. However, due to the small diameter of the inner conductor, the connection strength of the inner conductor becomes very poor if it is not glued firmly at the threaded connection during assembly, especially some small RF coaxial connectors. Therefore, when the connector is connected and disconnected for many times, the inner conductor thread may loosen and fall off under the long-term action of torque and tension, resulting in connection failure.


One of the common structures of RF coaxial connectors is that the inner conductor, dielectric support and outer conductor are fixed together by adhesive. If the adhesive dose is insufficient or the adhesive connection strength is insufficient during the assembly of the structure, the stress at the adhesive may break during use, causing the inner conductor to rotate or jump axially, so that a good electrical contact cannot be formed between the inner conductors and the connection will fail.


Improvement method:


Assembly coaxial Connector An appropriate amount of conductive adhesive or thread locking agent can be applied at the threaded connection to improve the reliability of threaded connection. Select the adhesive with high bonding strength, and ensure that the adhesive fills the whole gluing hole during gluing; Knurling at the gluing part of the inner conductor to increase the contact area between the inner conductor and the adhesive and prevent the inner conductor from rotating; Properly adjust the radial dimension and tolerance of inner conductor, outer conductor and dielectric support to make the coordination between inner conductor and dielectric support, dielectric support and outer conductor excessive, so as to make the assembly of the three more firm.


2. The socket or pin size of the inner conductor is incorrect.


If the hole diameter of the conductor in the plug is less than the specified size, when the plug of the conductor in the plug enters the plug, the plug expands excessively and the deformation exceeds its elastic deformation range, resulting in plastic deformation, resulting in damage to the conductor in the plug; On the contrary, if the diameter of the plug is too small, when the plug is matched with the plug, the gap between the plug and the plug wall is too large, the two inner conductors of the connector cannot be in close contact, the contact resistance increases, and the electrical performance index of the connector becomes worse.


Improvement method:


Whether the fit between the plug and the plug is reasonable shall be measured by the insertion force and retention force when the standard plug is matched with the conductor in the plug. For example, for an n-type connector, the diameter φ The insertion force of 1.6760 + 0.005 standard plug when matched with the plug shall be ≤ 9N, diameter φ 1. The retention force of 6000-0.005 standard plug when matched with the conductor in the plug shall be ≥ 0.56n. Therefore, the insertion force and retention force can be used as the inspection standard to make the insertion force and insertion force within an appropriate range by adjusting the dimensions and tolerances of the insertion force and insertion force and the aging treatment technology of the inserted inner conductor.
